The Louisiana World Tour began in 2011 as a way to get back behind a camera and pursue one of my favorite photographic subjects - small towns. Inspiration was a hope; mental clarity was another. In the end, I got both of those things and so much more. I visited over twenty faraway places including Venice, Athens, Hamburg and China, without every leaving my home state. I shot hundreds of photos, wrote songs and blogged about my adventures.
Traveling around Louisiana's rich and diverse geographic landscape, I gained spiritual insights in Delhi; I faced my fears in Transylvania, and, guided by the wisdom of Winnie the Pooh, found The Way out of the forest in Copenhagen. The story I tell is one of personal experience from my travels and heavily influenced by the Emersonian idea that to travel far – and light – you need not go any further than your own backyard. This performance uses songs, stories and photographs to illustrate and explore the idea, through Louisiana, that the world is as large or as small as we want it to be. How we choose to perceive it is entirely up to us.
