Natasha Sanchez is a photographer, songwriter, performer & world traveler from New Orleans, Louisiana. She studied History and Cultural Geography at Southeastern Louisiana University, earning her Bachelor of Arts in 1995. The next 10 years were spent working in the film, music, and photography industries. Her academic and professional background forms the foundation of her work as a photographer and songwriter.
She has written and performed several one-woman shows featuring her photography and songs, including “Nattie at the DMV”, tales of self –discovery in unlikely places and faces, “My G-String is Out of Tune”, stories of good times and pick-up lines, and “Nattie and the Class of 2019”, lessons learned as a substitute teacher in post-Katrina New Orleans. Her latest performance piece, “Louisiana: A Philosophical and Photographic Road Trip through the State of My World” is a collection of songs, stories and photographs recounting her travels through Louisiana, the state of her world.
Natasha’s love of the darkroom keeps her shooting film and experimenting with vintage techniques, including the lumen print process, a camera-less photographic technique developed in the 19th century. Using sunlight as developer she continues to experiment and explore the endless boundaries of this unique photographic process. Her article "How to Make a Starry Lumen Print" was published on Alternative Photography.com in 2013.
She is currently Vice President of the New Orleans Photo Alliance. She leads photography workshops in New Orleans’ Garden District and French Quarter through American Photo Safari, teaching photo basics and how to see creatively. In addition to exhibiting and showcasing her photographs, she hosts a monthly Songwriter Circle as well as a weekly Open Mic at Buffas Bar and Restaurant on the edge of the French Quarter in New Orleans. In short, Natasha specializes in making the world just a little bit larger one photograph and one song at a time.
